Nobody Taught Us How to Do This… Introducing the Relationship Workshop
It’s my view that for many of us .. nobody taught us how to do long-term relating. how to stay genuinely close to someone over years? How to repair after a fight without it festering for days? How to ask for what we need without it turning into the same argument we’ve had a hundred times. No manual. No lessons. Most of us just absorbed whatever we happened to grow up around the way our parents did or didn’t talk to each other, the stories we were told about love, the stuff we picked up from songs and films and quietly unrealistic ideas about how it’s all supposed to go.
we’re then surprised when it’s hard.
What we now understand about relationships has moved on enormously. The science of what actually makes love last so what creates safety, what erodes it, what breaks trust and what repairs it is genuinely out there. Researchers like John Gottman have spent decades studying what distinguishes couples who thrive from those who don’t. Therapeutic models like Relational Life Therapy (RLT), Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Imago have given us increasingly precise maps of why we do what we do with the people we’re closest to, and what we can do differently.
Most people don’t have access to this. It lives in therapy rooms and training programmes and academic journals. I’ve spent years immersed in it, and this autumn I want to bring it into a room in Stroud with a small group of people who are ready to learn.
The Relationship Workshop is a three-session experiential series running at The Exchange in Stroud on 12th September, 10th and 17th October, from 9.30am to 1.30pm.
It’s not therapy. It’s skills-based, hands-on learning Each session builds on the last, so the experience deepens across the three mornings.
Who is this for? Couples who feel distant, stuck, or like they’re having the same argument on repeat. Individuals who are between relationships and want to understand their patterns before the next one. Anyone who suspects that the issue isn’t a lack of love but a lack of the skills nobody taught them.
Singles are absolutely welcome and the work is just as useful whether you’re currently partnered or not.
I’m AuDHD myself, and the space is designed to be relaxed and flexible. You’re welcome to move around, step out if you need to, and there’s no pressure to share anything you’re not ready for. If you have specific access needs, please just get in touch before booking.
